Dreams can be defined as a mental activity that keeps occurring while sleeping. A lot of researchers, philosophers, scholars, and psychoanalysts have a varied dream definition.
Dreams consist of complex neural activities and brain circuits. Memory plays an important factor since many elements of a dream are recreated using the fragments of memory laying in the subconscious. Dreams are a mental, biological and chemical activity taking place in your mind during your least alert stage.
What Are Dreams?
Random & Bizarre
Dreams are often random and bizarre and lack any logical reasoning when the dreamer wakes up. They are often not remembered properly, and can only be recalled by fractions and not as a whole. Most people try to convince themselves that their dreams have a meaning that they’re failing to figure out at once.
A Part of the Human Memory
Dreams also form a part of human memory in the brain’s subconscious state. It is often stated that places or people that we see in our dreams are places that we have either seen or been to, or people we have seen or met, but don’t distinctly remember.
Pieces of Memory
Dreams are nothing but pieces of our memory put together, lacking greater meaning or logical reasoning. Psychoanalysts like Carl Jung and Sigmund Freud did extensive research concerning dreams and their meanings. Both had differing theories about dreams.
Occurs in the Unconscious State of Mind
Freud believed that dreams took place in the unconscious state of mind and that one could learn a lot about a person through their dreams and unconscious state of mind. On the other hand, Jung believed that even though dreams emerged from the unconscious state of mind, the representation of a dream would vary from dreamer to dreamer depending on their association with the subject.
Do Dreams have a Definite Meaning?
Dream definition is not specific or absolute in nature because of the varying degree and magnitude of dreams. The dream world, as many like to call it, is a world of its own and has its own rules. Defining dreams or the state of dreaming is an exercise that requires a lot of study on the subject. Dreamers are often not able to recall their dreams after waking up, and although they may say that they experienced something very strange, they would hardly be able to put it to words.
